I feel very nostalgic for halloweens of the past today, as there are really no jack o lanterns, no suburbs with kids in costumes begging for candy, no apple cider or pumpkin pie, and just no halloween of my american past.
However, the air is cool and crisp, I am wearing orange and black, there is an orange and black altar to the dead in the quesadilla restaurant, there are orange and black mexican style flags draped all over Canadian Center, there are halloween programs on TV, and I have planned some fun activities for my halloween party classes today, including jokes like this one, which proved to be my students favorite:
Q: How does a monster tell his future?
A: He reads his horror scope!!!!
BWAHAHAHHAHAAAAA!!!! (read that laugh as sinsterly as possible!)
The celebrating doesn´t end here; tomorrow and friday are mexico´s Dia de los Muertos, and I will tell you all about those festivities, but later.

there wasn't really a halloween of my american past in chicago either. it made me a little upset. for the past few years i've gone to joe hubers with chris's family and shot apples our of slingshots and took a ride through a pumpkin patch and drank cider. here, hannah and i got pumpkins from the grocery and didn't even carve them. i DID however dress up in three different costumes. :)
i miss you.
and i really like that joke.
jess. first, i think you may be the most exciting and wonderful english teacher ever. who wouldn´t love to learn MJ and laugh at jokes about monsters while learning english? second, remember our pumpkin cooking extravaganza. yum. i do have calabazas, well we have more squashes (sapayos)so maybe i will make something with that today.
